Applying three principles—periodicity, pipelining, and workflow-schedule independence—in tandem reveals an intrinsically sequential process in a new light. Iterative and incremental processes can have different essential workflows, but each also has multiple intertwined workflows with various cadences and work-item granularities. Microsoft's Acceptance Test Engineering Guide, Volume I: Thinking about Acceptance inspired this column.
