The goal of this tutorial is to provide insights and understandings into how to design, select and implement coordination and workflow management technology. This paper sketches the tutorials main chapters. Efficient and successful business process management is one of the major challenges companies are faced with all over the world today. Business processes are the basis upon which enterprises (re-)organize their structures, production processes, adaption to changing demands of customers and their relationships to other players on worldwide markets. Coordination and workflow management technology are crucial technological enablers for achieving and keeping competitive organizational structures. Although there exist examples of successful workflow management projects, the design and implementation of this innovative technology is still a highly complex issue. Standard" software engineering approaches have to be modified and enriched to reflect the workflow demands on IT architectures, its impact on organizational structures and its dependency on corporate strategies. Besides workflow management other promising techniques for coordination are groupware, agent modelling, process design, planning, communication and conflict management.
