Analyzing large and distributed image datasets is a crucial step in understanding the structural and functional characteristics of biological systems. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of a toolkit that allows rapid and efficient development of biomedical image analysis applications in a distributed environment. This toolkit employs the Insight Segmentation and Registration Toolkit (ITK) and Visualization Toolki (VTK) layered on a component-based framework.tWe present experimental results on a cluster of workstations
