Recent results and conjectures are presented regarding the behavior of asymptotically optimal vector quantizers. The principal new results are four lemmas and a corollary relating the distortion and entropy of quantizers and asymptotically optimal quantizers. Several related conjectures (some of which are based on simulations) are made regarding the behavior of asymptotically optimal quantizers.
