Abstract: There is a tremendous investment and reliance upon software used to manage remote telecommunication and data communication devices. With the advent of object-oriented management protocols, the need to add an agent to interface the object-oriented protocol with the existing software poses certain design challenges to preserve the existing investment. Some lessons learned in implementing an object-oriented CMIP agent are discussed in this paper.
