This document gives first a survey of parametric representations that are often used in computer aided geometric design. These include B-spline, NURBS, tabulated cylinder, trimmed surface and surface of revolution. Secondly, the paper deals with applications in surface mesh generation. The parameter domain is triangulated using Delaunay-Voronoi meshing and the spatial mesh is refined according to the error provided by the parametric function itself. We need also to merge the resulting meshes so as to obtain a single mesh of the whole model. The IGES format is used to illustrate CAD geometric storage. Some corroborative benchmarks from mechanically interesting objects will be equally provided.
