How in practice have organizations gone about moving to e-business, or at least placing themselves usefully on the web? A study of 78 corporations in a three year period identifies a varieties of rationales and practices. A key issue is the e-sourcing policy adopted. The paper identifies the internal and external development routes taken, determinants of success and also identifies when and why organizations bring ebusiness development work back in-house. The paper also looks at the total outsourcing/partnering route, the trade-offs involved, and draws conclusions from the findings.
