This study describes effective rate controls regarding both end-to-end receiver?s reports and intermediate network information for streaming delivery systems on next-generation mobile communication networks. Moreover, the method has been implemented in our mobile QoS systems for Windows. Results of evaluation experiments with an IMT-2000 network simulator showed that network information-based rate control is superior to end-to-end control in terms of the number of lost packets and bandwidth usage at specified channel and error rates. Moreover, they indicated that cooperative method using network information and end-to-end receiver?s reports are quite effective for retransmission and session control, which is indispensable for mobile streaming systems.
