The paper describes the solution to the color correction problem used in the digital system we have designed for the reconstruction of the S. Matthew fresco, painted by Cimabue for the Upper Church of S. Francis in Assisi. The characteristics of the problem make difficult to evaluate correspondences between colors and require specific corrections to be applied to different parts of the fresco. The obtained improvement in terms of color similarity and retrieval results is shown.
