This paper describes how it is possible to extend the functionalities provided by a Remote Access Service, by means of a Distributed Directory Service, to easily realize an "Internet Roaming" infrastructure, which may permit users to avoid paying international telephone costs when accessing e-mail or in general any Internet/Intranet applications; this work has been developed by CSELT (on behalf of Telecom Italia) in cooperation with other Public Network Operators (Deutsche Telekom AG, Finnet Group, MATAV Hungarian Telecommunications Company Ltd., France Telecom) within the framework of a EURESCOM (European Institute for Research and Strategic Studies in Telecommunications) project "Study of Internet Roaming Throughout Europe".
