We argue that the task of representing interrelationships between things requires the use of visual techniques. Our common verbal and factual approaches to information tend to miss something essential - the “perspective”. In the article, the perspective is defined and explained with the help of a visual technique, the ideograms. It is shown how ideograms can be used for expressing and correcting the perspective. Methodologically, the article is an introduction to ideograms as an information design technique. Eight applications of ideograms are discussed.
