We describe Soda: a new distributed file system for a loosely coupled group of computers (a multicomputer). Soda presents a consistent file system image to a number of CPU server clients. It also keeps track of changes made to system files and thereby simplifies operating system upgrades and problem diagnosis. It provides some support for process migration. It also provides convenient run-time access to file system status and control.
