6POWER is a project funded by the European Commission Information Society Technologies Program, unique in the sense of working in several key fields of next generation networks: Power Line Communications, Quality of Service, Broadband and IPv6. The main goal of the project is to contribute to ensuring affordable broadband access and the deployment of IPv6 in Europe, as stated in the conclusion of the presidency from the Barcelona European Summit. Towards this target, the project is researching native support of IPv6 and other related protocols or advanced network services over broadband PLC. The project also looks into adapt several next generation applications (including audio and video streaming) and the network deployment, to be validated through the involvement of user groups and international trials.
