Networked multimedia information systems will play a critical role for the emerging telemedicine applications. Innovations in hardware and software technologies are feeding this revolution. In this paper, the notion of quality of service (QoS) for communication of telemedicine multimedia data is presented. Key multimedia data synchronization requirements are elaborated and several synchronization protocols are discussed. We also elaborate the issues of managing pre-orchestrated as well as live videoconference multimedia data for telemedicine applications.
