This paper presents a novel methodology, which extracts an optimal set of design (operation) points for an adaptable embedded system that functions under continuously varying throughput constraints. The methodology involves characterizing the throughput constraint variations with a new kind of mathematical modeling expressions called performance bands, and a technique for optimal selection of the design points needed for adaptation. Experiments compare the obtained over-design reduction as the system adapts to varying throughput constraints by switching to the selected design points.
