Dental CAD/CAM offers the prospects of drastically reducing the time to provide service to patients. The design of tooth model’ surface is one of the key steps of dental CAD/CAM. This paper presents a novel method based on the subdivision space deformation to realize the tooth local deformation. The association mapping between the tooth model and the subdivision space is constructed during the local parameterization stage. During the local design process, the feature control mesh simplified from the initial mesh is modified by the user and then the modification is transferred to the subdivision space with Loop subdivision. The tooth model is changed according to the deformation of subdivision space. Some examples are tested in this work and the results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is effective and feasible.
