The Miramar virtual collaboration environment was originally designed and constructed as a singleuser 3D workspace. Its transformation into a multiuser collaboration workspace - while still retaining its core capabilities - posed major challenges, some anticipated, some empirical. The authors identify the issues faced in this transmogrification, discuss how they were addressed and why, the lessons learned, and remaining challenges.
