Development of new technology especially, communication and information technology (computer technology, global information networks, such as internet) has dramatically changed the majority of service-oriented professions including of profession nursing. We are witnessing a rapid development of health-related telemedicine systems and online systems networks in the member states of the European Union.
Skills of using new computer communication and information technology and abilities to use information systems (for example, online computer systems for managing client documentation) are increasingly becoming an inseparable part of many professions, including the profession on nursing.
Today, we can not imagine the work of a nurse without the support of computer and (tele)communication technology. Advanced information technology has strongly influenced the education of nurses. New forms of learning are being introduced, especially distance learning and teaching. The need for independent learning and the shift from the traditional lecturing practice to the independent learning happened even before computers, networks and digital media appeared.
The appearance of new technology only upheld this shift, as the online electronic technology strongly supports independent (individual and group) learning without teachers? mediation. New teaching methods as well as new forms of interaction between teachers, students and the library and information services, provided by network digital environments, emerged.
