In this paper, we describe a generalized version of multicarrier CDMA (MC-CDMA) that extends to multiple frequency sub-bands or multiple bands. We term this frequency-generalized MC-CDMA (FG-MC-CDMA). This technique can provide more flexibility in selection of data rates and a larger diversity order than comparable schemes, by generalizing MC-CDMA to allow for different spreading factors. We describe the scheme’s principles of operation, and provide analytical and simulation results for its use in multi-band channels. Our results show that FG-MC-CDMA can be an attractive transmission scheme for reliable multi-rate wireless communications.
