In this paper, we describe a PhD project in which a method is devised to select a middleware platform for Enterprise Application Integration (EAI). The method uses a taxonomy of middleware platforms that is based on the architectural styles that are induced by the middleware platforms. The focus in the selection process is on extrafunctional properties of the systems based on the different styles rather than functional or data issues.
