In this paper, we propose an architecture for the implementation of monitoring services in Grid environments. This architecture, which is based on the publish/subscribe paradigm, is compared and contrasted with the Grid Monitoring Architecture (GMA), proposed by the Global Grid Forum (GGF), and currently adopted in several Grid projects.
