An efficient and inexpensive technique for implementing linear-phase filters that use a comb pattern that do not contain a multiplication unit is presented. The multiplierless Xilinx Spartan field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) are used to implement the filtering algorithms. A barrel shifter and a pipeline adder are constructed to accelerate the processing speed. This FPGA-based approach is superior to the traditional method of using programmable digital signal processor (PDSP).
