MPEG-7 and data steam are both the recent hot research fields in the multimedia retrieval and DBMS. MPEG-7 is designed to standardize the description of multimedia content in order to support a wide range of applications. Although MPEG-7 standard proposes rich description schema (DS) for image, video, multimedia, home media, and archive content, there is still deficiency in uniform hierarchy and granularities description. This paper proposes a framework by hierarchically describing the content of multimedia documents, which is composed of the abstracted management level, syntactic level and conceptual level basic document information description unit. Moreover we make use of the different levels information description units of the multimedia information management system to realize multimedia documents information retrieval in the data stream environment.
