A foreign superkey in relational database theory is a set of attributes referring to a superkey of some relation variable. In this paper, the notion of constant references is introduced: foreign superkeys with constant elements, which lead to simplified constraint formulation and integrity enforcement when implementing entity subclassing in relational databases.
Index Terms:
Relational theory, integrity constraints, entity subclassing, foreign keys.
