In recent years, integrating SIP with OSGi has become one of the important research topics in the communication between mobile and networked home devices. In this paper, the general architecture for combining OSGi and SIP is investigated and implementation issues with the communication middleware are discussed. The encapsulation of OSGi devices with SIP has been realized by the concept of "SIP bridging middleware" and OSGi devices are enabled with the ability to communicate with each other through SIP. Experiments include two test cases in mobile EPG application and home surveillance service, both deployed on the OSGi network. Test results show that the proposed SIP bridging middleware satisfies application requirement in control, data transmission and media streaming.
