This paper presents major complications that arise when activating SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) within heterogeneous (i.e. IPv4 and IPv6) realms. It proposes scenarios for migrating SIP-based conversational services to IPv6. It also introduces two new procedures for routing optimization purposes when heterogeneous nodes are involved in the same SIP session.
