As instant messaging has become more popular, particularly for businesses, it has also increasingly become the target of attacks, such as those using malicious code and phishing. Messaging providers and security companies are taking steps to combat IM attacks, including monitoring and analyzing IM security risks and educating consumers about safe computing practices.
