Wireless sensor networks often come with insufficient resources such as memory, processing capability and, in particular, energy supply. In order to increase the lifetime of sensor networks, it is essential to consume less energy for the transmission of sensed information. This paper proposes a new technique for reducing the amount of network traffic by detecting and eliminating duplicated packets. The simulation results show that this technique effectively reduces traffic volume and energy consumption with negligible increase of implementation cost.
