The mobile Internet has been threatened by unsolicited bulk mail attacks. This threat has caused user adoption of the longer email addresses and exposes new user behaviors in always-on ubiquitous world. The author discusses the three factors of mail address evolution from the three perspectives: defensive, cognitive and social views. The author analyzes the address length transition over 4 years in Japan. The author describes an excessive user behavior on the use of special characters from the viewpoint of trade-offs among defensive, cognitive and social aspects.
