In this paper we study admission control in IEEE 802.11- based ESS mesh networks. An analytical model is developed for studying the mesh network capacity. Based on this, a distributed connection admission control (CAC) scheme is proposed, which incorporates load balancing in selecting a mesh path for a new connection. Our results show that connection level performance, including both average number of connections in the network and connection blocking probability, can be greatly improved using the proposed admission control compared to other admission control schemes.
