An increasingly popular paradigm for Beyond 3G (B3G) Telecommunications considers clusters of co-operating networks, which offer the user seamless access through a range of technologies such as GPRS, UMTS, WLAN or DVB.

In this paper, we introduce Digital Video Broadcast (DVB) technology from the perspective of B3G inter-worked services, providing an overview of the technology and an introduction to the MobileVCE Core III project and our IoN UMTS-DVB inter-worked architecture.

We present and analyse three original proposals for providing Mobile Terminal (MT) Location Discovery in an efficient manner across the inter-worked network and conclude that our proposed ?hybrid? UMTS plus DVB paging scheme offers promise for efficient MT discovery. Furthermore, we briefly introduce other aspects of research that must be addressed in order that our architecture proposal can function effectively.
