Rice Computer Scientist Wins Wallace-McDowell Award

Rice University computer scientist Krishna Palem, who also heads the Institute of Sustainable Nanoelectronics (ISNE) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore, has won the prestigious 2008 W. Wallace McDowell Award for his pioneering contributions to the growing field of embedded computing. The W. Wallace McDowell Award has a list of past winners that reads like a who's who of industry giants. Read more

IEEE Computer Society Launches Corporate Initiative

The IEEE Computer Society has launched an outreach campaign called Raise Your Standards targeted at technology professionals and the corporations who hire them. The initiative’s message will be communicated via nine video vignettes on You Tube, MySpace, and SecondLife, as well as via http://raiseyourstandards.org and a DVD distributed at conferences and tradeshows. Industry Advisory Board Picks New Members

The Industry Advisory Board has selected three new members and will be focusing on how the IEEE Computer Society can better serve high-technology companies. The new members include Tony Hey, corporate vice president of the External Research Division at Microsoft Research; Tirumale K. Ramesh, a Boeing Technical Fellow and Chief Technologist-AMSE Virtual Operations; and Henry Tirri, senior vice president and head of Nokia Research Center. Read more
