LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., 1 April 2024 – Today, the IEEE Computer Society (IEEE CS) and its magazine, IEEE Intelligent Systems, announced the call for nominations for its biannual “AI’s 10 to Watch” award. The award honors ten early career researchers in the area of artificial intelligence (AI) and recognizes their accomplishments and burgeoning impact in the field. Awardees will be featured in a future issue of IEEE Intelligent Systems, a peer-reviewed bimonthly publication of the IEEE CS that has been publishing trusted content in areas of AI for more than 35 years.

“With so much happening in AI today, it’s critical that research continues to explore its full potential,” said Jyotika Athavale, 2024 IEEE CS President. “These awards directly identify those rising stars who aren’t afraid to push the envelope, expedite research, and work through the obstacles or challenges that can sometimes thwart progress. Many of the past awardees have now become well known scholars in AI-related areas and have made lasting contributions to advances in AI research and the development of AI technologies. We expect the same to occur with our 2024 honorees.”

For this prestigious award, IEEE CS is seeking nominees who have completed their Ph.D. or Ph.D. equivalency in 2014 or later and who have already demonstrated globally recognized and significant scientific or engineering contributions to one or more areas of AI. Nominees will be evaluated on the scientific quality, reputation, and impact of AI research, projects and publications, in addition to the honors, leadership experiences, and expert endorsements accumulated since the awarding of their Ph.D.

The “AI’s 10 to Watch” Award, now in its 18th year, was established in 2006 by the IEEE CS and its IEEE Intelligent Systems publication to honor rising stars in AI and promote the community of AI researchers and their work. More notable past recipients of the “AI’s 10 to Watch” Awards include: Bo An (2018); Jure Leskovec (2011); Jennifer Neville (2008); and more.
